Check out the Arcade Fire
Posted on July 08, 2006 12:42:26 PM in Music

Arcade Fire, an indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, is known for its enthralling live performances, as well as its use of a large number of musical instruments—mainly guitar, drums, and bass guitar—but also piano, violin, viola, cello, xylophone, keyboard, accordion, and harp. With several able musicians, Arcade Fire takes most of its instrumental diversity on tour, with band members switching instrumental duties between songs.

The title of the debut album, Funeral, was chosen because of the deaths of several relatives of band members during recording. These events created a somber atmosphere which influenced songs such as “Une année sans lumière” (”A Year without Light”), “In the Backseat”, and “Haiti”, Chassagne’s elegy to her lost homeland.

Without a major label backing, the success of the band and the album Funeral has been acclaimed as an internet phenomenon, with much of the early push coming from reviews on sites such as Pitchfork.

We're digging The Honorary Title

O.K. here's another band that we're into right now. A brief description on the Brooklyn, NY band:

"Drawing on an eclectic range of influences that includes Elvis Costello, Bright Eyes and Jeff Buckley, The Honorary Title combines raw emotion with pop hooks and remarkably poetic lyrics to write songs that defy simple genre classifications."

Chin Up Chin Up
Posted on April 11, 2006 07:45:59 AM in Music

Need to switch up your regular music rotation? We've recently been turned onto Chin Up Chin Up, a Chicago based band.

"Chin Up Chin Up makes music about hope, about persevering through tragedy, and the redemption of optimism. Listen to We Should Have Never Lived Like We Were Skyscrapers from the title track's crescendoed bounce to the banjo and guitar of "All My Hammocks Are Dying" and you'll discover the beauty of old souls dancing like adolescents, their hearts bruised but beating stronger and louder each day." - www.chinupchinup.com

Anyways, check out their site and give it a listen. There's nothing like finding some new music to give life to that stale mp3 player. And if you've already heard of them then give us some ideas on who you've found recently. We're always open to new music around the shop.
